Privacy Policy
Your data is yours. Here is exactly what the app does with it.

In short: no account, no ads, no tracking. Everything you enter stays on your phone. Only the few features described below send anything off your phone, and only when you use them.
This Privacy Policy describes how the Muscle & Meal Notes mobile app (the "App", "we") collects, uses and shares information.
What stays on your phone
Everything you enter is stored only on your phone: ingredients, recipes, meal plans, which meals you ate, your body weight, measurements and body fat, your goals and check-ins, your workouts and exercises, your step counts, and your photos and videos. The App has no account and no server of its own that keeps this data. We cannot see it.
Food data from Open Food Facts
When you scan a barcode or search for a product, the barcode or the words you searched for are sent to Open Food Facts, an open food database, to find the product. A product photo you choose to use is downloaded from it. Nothing else about you is sent. See the Open Food Facts privacy policy.
Steps from Health Connect (Android)
If you connect your steps, the App reads your step count from Health Connect, and nothing else. It uses them to show your steps against your step goal, and in your weekly check-in.
- Your steps stay on your phone. They are never sent to our server, to OpenAI or to anyone else.
- They are never used for advertising and never sold.
- You can disconnect at any time in the Health Connect settings on your phone.
The App's use of information received from Health Connect adheres to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Camera, photos and microphone
The camera is used to scan barcodes and to take photos and videos (of products, exercises and your progress). The photo library is used to pick photos. The microphone is used only to record sound with a video you take. All of these stay on your phone.
Reminders
Meal, workout and check-in reminders are scheduled on your phone. The App does not use a push notification service, so nothing is sent to set them up.
Backups
You can save a backup file of your data. It goes to the folder or app you choose (for example your Files app or a cloud drive you pick). We never receive it.
AI features (via OpenAI)
Some optional features use AI: ideas to improve a recipe or balance a day, estimating a meal you describe, explaining your week, and creating a recipe. They are part of Pro and only run when you tap them.
When you use one, the details that request needs are sent through our server to OpenAI to write the answer:
- the ingredients, recipes and meals involved (names, amounts and nutrition values);
- your nutrition targets;
- any text you type for that request.
Never sent: your name or email, your body weight, measurements or body fat, your photos, your step counts or any other health data. Our server passes the request on and does not keep its contents. To keep AI use fair, it may count how many requests you make each day, using the anonymous ID described under Subscriptions (never your name or email). OpenAI processes the request under its own privacy policy.
Subscriptions (via RevenueCat)
Pro is an optional subscription, bought through the App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google handle the payment: we never see your card or payment details.
The App uses RevenueCat to know whether you have Pro. RevenueCat receives an anonymous ID for your copy of the App, your purchase history (which subscription, when, and its price) and basic technical information such as the platform, app version and country. It does not receive your name, email or any of the data you enter in the App.
What we don't do
- No advertising.
- No analytics, tracking or crash-reporting tools.
- We never sell or share your data with anyone for marketing.
Your choices and deleting your data
- Data on your phone: More → Data → Erase all data deletes everything. Uninstalling the App deletes it too.
- Steps: remove the App's access in the Health Connect settings.
- Subscription data at RevenueCat: email us and we will ask RevenueCat to delete it.
If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply to you, and delete them on request.
Children
The App is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Security
Your data on the phone is protected by your phone's own security. Everything the App sends over the internet goes over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the App changes. The date at the top shows the latest version; important changes are also mentioned in the App or on this page.
